Gorewada Lake & Zoo

Gorewada Zoo was officially inaugurated at the hands of Hon. Chief Minister Shri. Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray on 26th January 2021and was opened to the public from 27th January 2021.The zoo was renamed as Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park in the honor of Late leader Balasaheb Thackeray at the time of inauguration.The zoo is envisioned to be the largest zoological Park in India with truly International components. The zoo is planned in 539 Ha with components like Indian Safari, African Safari, Night Safari, Archeological Theme Park, etc. At present Indian Safari is opened for public.

Futala Lake is a historic lake in Nagpur covering 60 acres. Built by the Bhosle kings, it’s famous for its colourful fountains, illuminated evenings, and Tanga rides. Surrounded by forest on three sides, it’s a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the city’s heritage.In Nagpur's western region lies the 200- year-old Futala Lake. Rich with history, the account of this scenic lake is fascinating, to say the least. It is spread over a large area and was built by the Bhosle Kings of Nagpur. However, with time, the charm of this lake faded and, in the absence of maintenance, this old lake became a washhouse for cattle!

Deekshabhoomi is a sacred monument in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, significant for being the place where Dr. B.R. Ambedkar embraced Buddhism along with a large number of his followers. It's a pilgrimage center for Buddhists and a symbol of social justice and equality. The site features a large stupa, inspired by the Sanchi stupa, and is a place of historical and religious importance. On October 14, 1956, Dr. Ambedkar and approximately 600,000 followers converted to Buddhism at Deekshabhoomi. This event marked a significant revival of Buddhism in India and is celebrated annually as Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Din.

Once the capital of the Vakataka dynasty, it showcases rich history and Maratha architecture rebuilt by Raghuji Bhonsle I in 1740 AD.Originally commissioned by Bakht Buland Shah, the ruler of Deogarh and founder of Nagpur, the Nagardhan Fort underwent a series of transformations under the stewardship of various rulers. Raghuji Bhonsle of the Bhonsle dynasty was one such ruler who expanded its boundaries in 1740 AD. As you approach the fort's majestic walls and towering gates, you cannot help but be awestruck by the palpable aura of history that permeates the air. Here, each stone bears a silent witness to the tales of battles and conquests that once unfolded within its hallowed confines.
